28 April 2018, The Hague: The Embassy of Bangladesh in The Hague celebrated ‘Rabindra- Nazrul Jayanti’ to mark the 157th birth anniversary of Biswa Kabi Rabindranath Tagore and 119th birth anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam on 28 April 2018. The programme was held in the Gandhi Centre of The Hague where renowned Rabindra song singer Mr. Kaderi kibria and Ms. Pranja Bhattacharya, founder of the Netherlands based music school ‘Sangeeti’ performed in the programme. Apart from that, members of Embassy family, local singers and child artists also performed. A large number of audience comprising Embassy officials, members of Bangladesh expatriate community and students attended the programme.
In his welcome remarks, H.E. Sheikh Mohammed Belal, Ambassador of Bangladesh highlighted the two great literary personality as sparkling star of Bangla literature. Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam uplifted Bangla literature, theater and music to a higher plane, they added different dimensions in Bengali culture and literature. In context of peace, humanity, human rights, secularism, love and nature their commendable literary works have been ever inspirational for young generations. They were so multitalented that they left their mark in more than one aspect of literature. Their intellectual capabilities and creativity not only enriched the Bangla literature in manifold but also opened up various fronts of literary research work.
Ambassador Belal, drawing reference from Kazi Nazrul’s literature, urged all to do their part to narrow the ever widening income inequality in the society. At the same time, Ambassador Belal highlighted the fact that relative women empowerment in Bangladesh, over the years, and cemented by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s targeted social safety net initiatives, inequality in Bangladesh is relatively better compared to similar developing countries in the world. Ambassador Belal, therefore, urged all to draw lessons from the literature of Rabindranath and Nazrul to live a life like true ‘human’ first and foremost.
Later, magical presentation of Ranbindra sangeet by Mr. Kaderi Kibria enthralled the audience, whereas, Nazrul geeti rendered by Ms. Pranja Bhattacharya, Dr. Dilruba Nasrin and other local artists mesmerized the show. Overall, the audience was overwhelmed with the performances of the singers and thanked the Embassy for organizing such a wonderful event. Traditional Bangali snacks were served at the end of the event.
