It wasn’t to lay out an entire spread of traditional Bangladeshi curry/dishes. Debating, conceptualising and negotiating with the Hotel team, for a year, the Embassy team saw much of back and forth to present a ‘fine dining’ menu. An evening that a Dutch|European may remember of Bangladesh in terms of aroma, colour or taste! To present an experience of Bangladesh, (live) music and a modest display of crafts and spices complemented.
A young Sayat Rahman Chowdhury (26), from Amsterdam, led the conceptualisation, aided by Muhammad Jannatul Habib & Sazia Ahmed. In the kitchen, shepherded by a veteran, Sheikh Emdad. Thanks indeed to Diplomat Magazine The Hague, especially Editor|Founder, Mayelinne de Lara, for support althrough!
Finalization of the menu proved tricky i.e. which items could best represent Bangladesh. The team decided to beging with evergreen jhalmuri and green mango drink, to tickle a guest’s taste bud. Also how to balance the spice level!
