The Netherlands assures to support Bangladesh for the return of forcibly displaced nationals of Myanmar

The Netherlands assured to support Bangladesh for the return of forcibly displaced Myanmar nationals from Bangladesh. The Dutch assurance was conveyed to Bangladesh Ambassador to the Netherlands when he held a meeting with the Director-General of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands on 6 October 2017.

Highly appreciating Bangladesh for extending hospitality to the forcibly displaced Rohingyas, especially women and children, who have taken shelter in Bangladesh recently, the Dutch-Director General reiterated the Dutch government’s condemnation on the atrocities on the Rohingyas. He assured to extend Dutch government’s emergency aid of 3 million Euro for the Rohingyas staying in Bangladesh and in Myanmar.

The Dutch Director-General underscored the importance of recommendations of the Annan Commission to address the root causes of the problems and assured that in their Parliament there is broad support in this regard. He also assured to support Bangladesh in the UN and other international organizations. It may be mentioned that the Netherlands is taking over as Member of the United Nations Security Council from 1 January 2018.

The Dutch Director-General and Bangladesh Ambassador also discussed issues of mutual interests including sustainability of RMG sector in Bangladesh, technology transfer in greenhouse and rooftop agriculture and scientific indoor aquaculture.”
